19th Annual Beach Water Quality Report Released
The Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) released its 19th annual beach water quality report on 29 July 2009.The report is "Testing the Waters: A Guide to Water Quality at Vacation Beaches" and includes summaries by individual states of beach water quality standards, monitoring, and closing/advisory practices, as well as the NRDC results. Florida Ocean Alliance report released
The Florida Ocean Alliance released a report: "Moving Ahead: The Next Step in Ocean Management for Florida". Final National Operational Wave Observation Plan
The final National Operational Wave Observation Plan, March 2009, prepared for the Interagency Working Group on Ocean Observations, is now available. The plan is an integrated ocean observing system for a comprehensive, high quality, surface-wave monitoring network for the U.S. that addressess the requirements of the maritime user community. Final Marine Protected Areas Framework
The Final Framework for the National System of Marine Protected Areas of the United States of America, November 2008, has been released. The Framework provides comprehensive national goals and flexible guidance for a variety of partnerships among federal, state, tribal, and local governments and stakeholders to develop an effective national system for the Marine Protected Areas. Developing a Gulf of Mexico Regional Research Plan
Five workshops on Gulf of Mexico regional marine research priorities and planning were held in January and February 2008 in FL, AL, MS, LA, and TX. These were sponsored by the Gulf of Mexico Sea Grant Programs as the final inputs to developing a prioritized Gulf of Mexico Regional Research Plan. The draft workshop reports were reviewed by participants. The summary report may be viewed on the Gulf of Mexico Research Plan web site at http://masgc.org/gmrp.
